Hand timer

The hand timer is a shot clock. When a player is taking too long, start it and a countdown appears on screen for everyone to see. It’s separate from the tournament clock, which keeps running the whole time.

Open the tournament’s menu (the button in the top right of the timer screen) and tap the Hand timer button in the top row of the drawer. The drawer closes and the countdown appears.

The hand timer is a translucent circle that floats above whatever screen you’re on, so it stays visible while you move between the timer, players, and tables.

  • The number in the middle is the seconds remaining, counting down. Past a minute it reads as minutes and seconds.
  • The spade behind it rotates as the seconds tick by, so the clock is readable from across the room.
  • Drag the circle anywhere on screen. It reappears in the same spot next time.
  • Tap Cancel at the bottom of the circle to stop early.

When the countdown reaches zero the circle disappears.

Three alerts come switched on for the hand timer, so you don’t have to watch the screen:

  • Hand timer start — a drum fill when you start it
  • Hand timer countdown — the last ten seconds spoken aloud, one by one
  • Hand timer end — an accent when time is up

They’re ordinary alerts, so you can change the sounds, rewrite them, or turn them off on the tournament’s Alerts screen.

The hand timer starts at 30 seconds. To change it, tap the circle while it’s running: the countdown stops and a Hand timer seconds box opens. Enter anything from 1 second to 10 minutes and the timer restarts with the new value.

That number becomes the new default, so the next hand you time uses it too. The setting lives on the device and applies to every tournament on it.

Any of these work:

  • Tap Cancel on the circle
  • Reopen the tournament menu and tap Hand timer again
  • Let it run out
